1.Tell me about your company – what industry you are in and what does your business do?
At uPaged, we’re in the business of people. More specifically, we’re in the business of empowering nurses with greater control over how, when, and where they work – while delivering a better, smarter, and more efficient way for healthcare organisations to access quality talent on demand. As a health tech company, we’re proud to sit at the intersection of technology and healthcare, connecting Australia’s most qualified and credentialed nurses with casual shifts and longer-term contracts across hospitals, clinical trials, telehealth, aged care, and other healthcare settings.
2. Can you please provide some top level information about your organisation, such as size, number of staff, office locations or similar?
We’ve been doing this from our home base in Sydney, with a small but mighty team that punches well above its weight. While we may be compact in size, our impact is anything but. Today, uPaged connects a growing pool of over 11,000 nurses from right across Australia with opportunities at almost 300 hospitals and healthcare facilities. Our reach is national, and our technology enables us to deliver localised, on-demand solutions at scale – which is exactly why pursuing ISO 9001 certification felt like a natural and necessary next step in our growth journey.
3. What motivated you to pursue certification?
In healthcare, quality isn’t optional – it’s everything. That same principle applies to the technology we develop, the partnerships we foster, and the way we run our business. ISO 9001 certification represented more than a badge – it was a strategic move to ensure our systems and processes reflect our commitment to continuous improvement, transparency and excellence.
As we grow and scale, it’s vital that our stakeholders – from hospital partners to nurses, and everyone in between – have confidence in the way we operate. Certification offers a structured way to define and refine our approach, strengthen trust and reinforce that we’re not just a tech company – we’re a quality-driven partner.
4. What was your experience like when working through the certification process with Global-Mark?
From the outset, our experience with Global-Mark was collaborative and refreshingly supportive. Our client manager understood that we aren’t just another nursing agency and as a result guided us through the certification process with genuine interest in understanding how we operate. They took the time to explore our systems and tools, and helped us to build a system that fits in with how we work.
The process, while thorough, was really well paced out so it didn’t feel burdensome. In a fast-paced environment like ours, that support was invaluable.
5. What is the result you’ve achieved, for example, are you satisfied with the result?
We’re proud to say we’ve achieved ISO 9001 certification – and yes, we’re absolutely satisfied with the result. More than that, we’re proud of the discipline and focus it’s brought to our operations.
It’s easy in a startup or scale-up to prioritise agility over process – but with the right frameworks in place, you don’t have to choose. Certification has enabled us to scale sustainably, with quality embedded in everything we do.
6. Have you observed any additional business advantages that arose as a result of achieving certification?
Since achieving certification, we’ve noticed some meaningful shifts. Internally, our team is highly engaged in our quality processes which are integrated with our existing workflows in Slack, calendar, sheets and docs. As a CEO this gives me incredible peace of mind knowing there is an established process for continual improvement for the business as a whole. Externally, partners and clients see the certification as a mark of credibility and trust. It’s helped to open doors with larger healthcare providers and strengthened our position when responding to tenders.
Most importantly, it’s given us a solid foundation to build on. ISO 9001 isn’t a finish line – it’s a launchpad for even greater things. And for a company like uPaged, where innovation and impact go hand in hand, that alignment is priceless.
