In Focus: Help Enterprises

Joanne HurstHuman Services & NDIS, Success of Clients

1. Tell me about your company – what industry you are in and what does your business do?

At the heart of who HELP Enterprises is are its people. These are people with disability who we support through our services and infrastructure, employ within our commercial businesses and also assist to find meaningful work in the open job market. The most important part in all of this, is that each person at HELP is empowered to live their best life, unrestricted and encouraged to achieve all that they are capable of. This is of course made possible by our dedicated staff.

On the community front, we are a respected disability service provider operating in the not-for-profit sector since 1968. Our commercial initiatives have led to HELP’s growth and flexibility in this area, including how we support people with disability now and in the future under a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Of a commercial nature, we currently operate Help Supply Chain Services, Help Manufacturing and Oxford Park Nursery.

2. Can you please provide some top level information about your organisation, such as size, number of staff, office locations or similar?

HELP Enterprises is a medium sized business with over 950 staff employed, we have locations across Queensland and Northern Territory, with a total of 79 locations.

3. Why did you go through certification?

HELP Enterprises prides itself in delivering quality services to a diverse customer group, due to this there is a need to ensure the differing business units can provide consistent products or services. By implementing ISO 9001:2016, HELP Enterprises has been able to build quality into all areas of the business, including their processes, systems and practice. This certification is also a requirement for Australian Government contracts currently being delivered.

4. How did you find the process with Global-Mark?

We have had numerous audits with representatives from Global-Mark and have enjoyed working with individuals who are well informed and knowledgeable in many areas of certifications. There are many factors when being audited against a standard and in the last 2 years external factors have affected everyone’s approach during an audit Global-Mark have done their very best at meeting our needs and addressing any immediate concerns.

5. What is your outcome e.g. are you happy with the outcome?

HELP Enterprises learns from every audit completed, we have always welcomed the opportunity to learn and grow both during and after and audit.

6. Are there any other business benefits you experienced as a result of becoming certified?

Working in a competitive landscape requires a future focused strategy where all staff can be involved and actively engage in the conversation, certification has been a key driver to encourage this and work towards embedding a continuous improvement culture within teams. The additional benefit of being certified is the ability to tender for both State and Federal funding opportunities that may not have been available otherwise.
